Thanks, just uninstalled and reinstalled - the set default option to login as current user was not checked, but the Show in connection dialog was checked... but I have never seen anything regarding using windows credential... saying that I configured it to auto connect or something a while back so maybe I was missing some of the normal logon sequence along the way, thanks again, looks like I've just about got everything covered now.
