Thanks. Yes, the snapshot is the current disk that I am trying to mount. VMware tech support acknowledged that VMware 10 is supposed to work this way. Snapshotting physical disks and mapping them writable is not supported officially. They apparently "fixed" this in V.10. Too many people were damaging disks by writing to them, so they "fixed" this for everyone!
